July 2015 Meeting Wrap Up

Thanks to members and guests who were able to attend the mid summer meeting!  Members were given a Make & Take Kit of embroidery to start at the meeting.  Finish your project and bring it to the August 15 meeting and you will be entered into a door prize drawing.

For several months we have had a two member leadership team, and while we haven't minded this, according to our by-laws the guild needed one more person on the leadership team.  A hand vote of attending members was taken to make Chen Wu Vice President of the guild and Mary Menzer Secretary / Treasurer.  Thank you for your support!

Sewing Retreat:

Very last chance to be added to our first annual sewing retreat, dates are Nov 20-22, more information can be found on this post!  Contact me at fairlymerry@gmail.com  if you would like to be added, otherwise we will close out sign ups so that we can finalize all the fun stuff that will be happening at our retreat!

Our guild will not be participating in the Modern Quilt Guild charity quilt challenge, we already have many charity quilts we are making and there was not enough interest in the MQG event.  This is ok, we give local and that feels good too!

Upcoming:
  • August 15, 2015 meeting at Red Wing Park 10:30 am - please bring a dish for our group to share after the meeting.  There were not a lot of sign ups for dishes at the meeting, so we are open to whatever you chose to bring.  Drinks will be provided.  **if it is a rain day, we will meet at the church as usual, we will put a note up on Facebook and the blog if there is a change**
  • Beach Bee Block quilts / quilt tops are to be revealed!  So excited to see what everyone made with their member swap blocks.
  • Alison Glass will be attending with a pop-up shop of merchandise.  She takes cash & credit / debit.
  • Continue working on your ALS charity quilts - our Charity Chair, Chen Wu is expecting a large turn out of quilts, minimum size is 35" x 44" - if you have older quilt tops that don't have a specific purpose, this is a perfect opportunity to turn those into charity quilts.  Quilts are to be brought to our September meeting.
  • Mid Atlantic display quilts are not due until Jan, but the size of your quilt should be known by the October meeting.  This is a display of guild quilts at the Mid Atlantic Quilt Show, not a juried portion of the show.  We hope we have many who will participate, to show off our many talented members.   The theme of our display is "Express Yourself", more information is under the tab - Guild Challenges at the top of this page.  You can also check with Angie Tackett or Carolyn Dixon if you have any questions.
  • Soon you will receive via email a guild survey, this will be an anonymous survey, we would like to know what you like, want to see more of, what you want from our guild as we grow.
