**Mid Atlantic Exhibit 2017
**Logo Challenge
We invite all current members to participate in the challenge to design our new logo! Our current logo was designed by one of our members before we became a part of the national Modern Quilt Guild, now we think a new logo chosen by all members would be a nice addition to our group.
Design your logo, the colors and design choice are up to you, but you must put your design into a mini quilt. No side less than 12", no side more than 24", and it must be quilted. Some things to keep in mind when designing are that the fewer the colors in a design the easier and less expensive it is to print on things like T-SHIRTS and TOTES! The simpler the design, the easier it is to identify your logo amongst others, too small of a font will not be able to be read on things like t-shirts. Some of the colors identified with the MQG (in Kona colors) are: Cyan, Azure, Candy Green, Lime, Chartreuse, Buttercup, School Bus, Tangerine, Medium Gray, Coal, White. You do not have to use these colors! You do not have to use Kona! But many of the other guilds have some of these colors in their logo. Solids will work better than prints for the logo design.
At our May meeting, bring your finished mini to the meeting, we will have a blind vote on the minis to choose a new logo. (Meaning, no one will know who made which mini) Winning design will win a prize.

Spring 2015 - MQG Riley Blake Challenge
VBMQG Mid Atlantic Quilt Festival Exhibit
February 23 – 26, 2017
Any member can submit a quilt for inclusion in the guild exhibit that meets the following guidelines.
Theme: Traditional Inspiration, Modern Interpretation
You will need to choose a traditional block (log cabin, pinwheel, churn dash, flying geese, etc.) for your inspiration. Redesign the block, make it wonky, cut it up, do whatever you like to make your quilt modern but do it with some visible elements of the block that you choose. A picture of your inspiration block will be included on the card that hangs next to your quilt in the exhibit.
Item: Must be a finished quilt with three layers and binding (faced binding included).
Size: Minimum size is 24” with maximum size of 108”.
Quilts must have a 4” hanging sleeve. You can find an excellent tutorial by Tallgrass Prairie Studio at http://tallgrassprairiestudio.blogspot.com/2012/02/hang-your-quilt-hanging-sleeve-tutorial.html
A label must be attached to the back of your quilt with the name of your quilt, your name, address, and phone number. I attached a temporary quilt label using an iron on fusible so I could remove the label after I got my quilt back. I didn’t really want my telephone number on my quilt permanently.
A written appraisal is required for any quilt valued at more than $1000. There is a value limit of $5000.00 maximum per quilt.
The size and value of your quilt will be due by December 1st. Your quilt doesn’t have to be finished, or even started at this point. We will have a little leeway in the size of the quilt changing, but not in the value as this is for the show management’s insurance purposes.
Completed quilts, and artist statements, will be due at the January 2017 meeting. The show management doesn’t allow/accept drop offs of quilts by individuals. Angie Tackett will deliver and hang the quilts for the show, and pick them up at the end of the show. Quilts will be returned at the February 2017 meeting, unless other arrangements have been made with Angie.
Please contact Angie if you have any questions at all. fabricaddict@verizon.net

**Fleet & Flourish Challenge Jan 2016 / June 2016
This year's quilt challenge will feature Maureen Cracknell's newest line Fleet & Flourish. Maureen is a mama, wife, blogger, quilter and one of the designers at Art Gallery Fabrics. Fleet and Flourish is Maureen's second line. She describes it as a collection for the modern day bohemian, filled with rich colors, soft graphic designs, delicate lace and florals.
The challenge is simple. Design and make a quilt featuring some or all of the fabrics from the Fleet and Flourish collection. You may include other solids but Fleet and Flourish must be the only patterned fabric and must be prominent. The minimum size for the quilt is 45"x45" but you may make it as large as you wish.
The due date for the quilt is June 18 and Maureen will be coming from Potters Country, PA to be at our meeting to see all the great quilts and will have a trunk show showcasing her quilts and projects :)
To kick off the challenge, Maureen has graciously donated a half yard bundle of Fleet and Flourish to one lucky winner ( winner will obviously have to agree to participate in the challenge). Also, Intrepid Thread has agreed to sponsor the challenge and will offer those participating a 20% off discount. There will be a sign up sheet for the challenge and discount codes will be emailed to those participating.
